-Location & Costume-

The location for this Digipack will be at my school, in the drama room. I wanted it to be in the drama room as the walls are painted black which will make my artist stand out with whatever she wears. The room as special lighting as performances are held there so my staging should be good. It has chairs that I can use and stools that my artist can sit and pose on.

I was thinking to do the photos for my Digipak somewhere outside but i thought that because of the weather (windy and cold) I wouldnt be able to capture my artists facial expressions like i want to so inside was the best choice as it is more reliable for me to get some decent shots for my Digipak.

These are some of my clothing ideas that i believe will work for an RnB artist.
The first one is of a dress which i quite different than a normal RnB artist dress. I decided to make it shorter and cuter than extravagant and boot heels. The second outfit is of a nice skirt with a crop top and low shoes. The third outfit is of a long lace skirt with a crop top to show my artists shape with heels. And lastly, a pink dress with heels.

-Production 1: Conventions-

Both of these artist make it a duty to have Jewellery of some sort. RnB artists tend to have Jewellery in every music video and show/premiere. However in their everyday lives, paparazzi mostly catches them without it but occasionally with. I may or may not follow that conventions of wearing huge Jewelry in a music video. I may not go as big but small.

  • Make up
Singers in professional public places always have make up on and when they are living their normal lives, they ay not. Whether their look is to be natural or not, they wear make up to achieve a certain look. They have their eyebrows done, wear eye shadow with eye lashes, lipstick and they contour the face (create features on the face e.g. a sculptured nose and nice cheekbones).

  • Bodily Tattoos/ Piercings

Nowadays piercings and tattoos are socially accepted in the meaning that not only females are to get their nose pierced for example. It is comment hat males have it as well. And not only males are to have tattoos. Both are getting them and it is fashion right now. However fashion may change and people (male and female) may change their preference which will be see as acceptable in wider society.

  • Material Goods

Even though, different gender artist have different views in what they think is material goods but things like luxury boats, houses, cars, trainers show off the artists wealth to an extent. In all music videos we see extravagant things and luxury things that attract audiences to the artist as they appear to be very rich.

-Codes and Conventions of chosen Genre-

I made a Genre Brainstorm of different Genres to give me an idea of what they include.
From this overall genre brainstorm, i have decided that my genre is out of Pop and RnB.
Below I have looked at the two genres separately and found out some things that are the same.

From this Venn Diagram, I have decided that i am going to be producing a RnB Digipak and poster.

I picked out some features from different artist that i am influenced by for my artist:

-Culture Industry-

We had a Culture Industry lesson today that explained that things are always changing.

Culture industry from sophxsophx

I thought to contradict the Culture Identity PowerPoint that people are changed and upgraded in the music industry. I found an artist called J. Cole that hadn't changed from when he first started off as an artist.

-Digipak Features-

I analysed four different types of Digipaks and Posters.
This showed me how many Digipaks and Posters have the same elements included in them that make them a Digipak and a Poster. It showed me some things that i should include in my work. for example, a colour theme and a unique CD.

-Digipak & Poster Analysis Green Screen-

Today we were asked to analyse a Digipak. I decided to analyse Rihanna's Digipak and Poster. It was quite interesting to see how they both tied into each other. The pictures, the theme, the layout etc. I got to see how similar the Poster is to the Digipak suggesting that it was done in the same day, most probably while the Digipak photos where taking place. I presented my analysis on top of a green screen.

I think this gave me a chance to see and understand how Digipaks are linked to the Posters which are then promoted all around the world if they have the funds to do so.

-Genre Music Video Analysis-

I made a PowerPoint of my chosen Genre which is RnB using Goodwin's Elements. The song I used was Chris Brown ft Usher & Rick Ross New Flame.

-General Music Video Analysis-

I made a Prezi of a general music video and linked it to Goodwin's Elements. I used the artist August Alsina.

-Cross Media Case Study-

I made an Emaze to show my Cross Media Analysis of a chosen artist which is K. Michelle.

-Music Video Director-

I made a Prezi to show my Director Research which I focused on Benny Boom.

-Record Industry: Major vs Indie-

I made a PowerPoint and researched Major and Independent/Indie Record Labels.

-De-Commodification-

Music Collection
20th Century record companies made money by selling a tangible product like a vinyl disk or a CD.
You would own music by having a disc collection in your house. It would be like something that is
collectable and priceless.

Changing Technology
Internet and the music industry had to adapt as CD sales were falling each year. Many music stores
e.g. HMV, Blockbuster etc have closed down. By those music stores closing down money stops coming
in for the artist but things like concerts and tours are other ways of an artist making their money. As
well as merchandise e.g t-shirts, hoodies etc. Music product is now bought online as a single song or album,
and exists only as on item on an iPod, mobile phone or computer. In 2009 95% of music was downloaded
online and done illegally. People may download music instead of buying them because it is free even though
it is illegal.

The music industry claimed a victory in 2009 when four men behind a file-sharing site (Private Boy)
were sentenced to a year in year and ordered to pay a £2.5m in damaged for helping internet users
download music, films and computer games without paying for them. However this action may have
been to stop downloading but people will still try and find a place to download music for free illegally.

Chief Executive Simon Fox said the 'within three years technology would become its single biggest
product category ahead of both CDs and DVDs. About 25% of the floor space to MP3 players, tablet
computers and headphones as the CD goes the way of other defunct formats such as vinyl and tapes.
The headphone market is worth £150m with Dr Dre's Beats selling for more than £100m. Now £1billion
after being bought by Apple.

-Favorite Video-

I made a PowerPoint to show Goodwin's Elements within my favourite music video.

-Postmodernism-

I made a Prezi to answer the question 'Post-Modernism is a shortcut to mass audiences?'

-Jay Z-

I made a Prezi to shoe Goodwin's Elements in Jay Z's 99 Problems music video.

-History-

Thursday 11.08.14
Advances in technology turned music videos in what it is today. Music videos have been around since 1920. Famous Jazz musicians such as Bessie Smith who sung St Louis Blues, made short films to accompany popular songs which was a new thing back then.

In 1965 Bob Dylan also made a short film for his song Subterranean Homesick Blues. It was created as one of the first modern music video which
was a form of lyric videos like we have in modern days on
YouTube where people can upload anything so that people
all over the world can watch them.

Pop music TV shows in 1970: the record industry discovers
TV shows which are a great opportunity to promote
their artists. They focus on producing short 'promos' early
music videos started to replace the live performance of
the artist on the TV stage. However some videos do not have
artists in it but other people and things which could
be considered as a new genre that is coming out. For example Sia Chandelier. In the image on the left, the narrative is conducted by the little girl in a wig dancing. The artist is not shown at all even though she is a new artist.

Bohemian Rhapsody 1975: the ground breaking video released
by Queen. At the beginning of the video the era is set (1970s). The video was one of the first to use advanced visual effects which was exciting in 1975 and still is exciting. At that time the
video would have been controversial like today Blurred Lines is
controversial with the type of video they shot.
